Pottery Barn Inspired

I was check'n out good ol' Pottery Barn, and found some things in each picture I really liked.. well a lot of things, like the whole thing, but since I don't have a pottery barn budget, I'll just take some ideas from their fabulous pictures and see what I have around the house that will give me a similar look...
Pottery barn has this same type of look, they always seem to use a lot of books, lots of layering and lots of neutral & natural colors...
so here's what did... { I needed to change up the look on my fireplace}
* Wrapped some books I had in brown paper, then wrapped them with some jute...
*I found a styrofoam ball and wrapped it with some twine...
*The basket I found at DI a while ago, thought it would be good for books...
*Stacked my magazines in a wire basket I took  off the counter
*Found some long cinnamon sticks and wrapped them with twine
*I had these cute light bulbs and put them in a mason jar, just for fun...
*Bought this cute cement decorative ball at Tia Pan forever ago, pulled it off the TV armoire
*Layered a clock, an old, empty picture frame and a family picture...
BEFORE

AFTER
seems a little better... warmer and different... different is good... and 100% free!!! can't beat that!

oh and it's all pretty baby proof, she found the twined wrapped ball right away... hopefully she doesn't get into it all too much!

Baby Shower Decor

We had a shower for my sister who is due with her first baby boy in about a month! I was in charge of decorations ... here is what I came up with... I got some old books from D.I. and cut the pages up to make a garland...

I put a small fold in the middle of the page and used that as my guide to cut the triangles out....

go from one corner to the middle fold... then the other corner to the middle fold...

you'll end up with a whole bunch of triangles...

small tip here: {that I realized after I cut most of them}... the point is the bottom so when you cut it make sure to pay attention to which direction your cutting, you have to turn it upside down ...

the point here was the top of the page which is the right side up, but your going to be turning them upside down... so it's opposite of what you think... ya know...

here's what it looked like all strung up! {so cute}

I also bought some cute onsies from good ol' walmart and some cute socks from Old Navy and strung them up [like on a clothesline]

{did the same with socks} in a different spot!!

It looked super~duper cute!!!

p.s. I just added this idea to craft-o-maniac mondays check it out!!

A Total R3!!

So a quick makeover... I had these shutters sitting in my garage for 6 years now...they were in the house "Nanna's house" and separated the front room from the kitchen, back in the day, they came down and out when we remodeled ... I finally pulled them out and decided to use them,

Before

After

I moved some things around... I had an old b&w door here that I moved over to another spot, then I took the family photo off the mantle and hung it on here,  using this really cute ribbon....

I took this stuff down {which was long overdue} and put the old b&w door here...

AFTER :) This is pretty much a total R3 project... I  {reused} & {redid}  the old door, giving two spaces a new {refreshed} look

{Re}Cycle Box

So for a while now I've been meaning to get some type of {re}cycle box in the kitchen, so I have a place to put everything until it gets taken out.. I had just finished off a big box of diapers and thought I'd {re} use it to put the {re}cycle items  in.... then I also remembered a craft idea I saw on Studio 5 (local news/craft show) where they mod-podged stuff with tin~foil.... why not give it a try...  I wrinkled up the tin-foil a little, then then just mod-podged it on, smoothed it out...

... then I got some craft paint to rub on {followed by a wet paper to towel} to wipe a lot of the paint off...
 I added some black electrical tape to the top inside of the box, and around the 'handles' on the sides... to cover the edge of where the tin-foil stopped... to basically seal it off, give it more of a finished look and keep it from peeling off.... I also spray painted the inside of the box, black...
as you can see from the first picture, I labeled it and then I put on a top coat of mod-podge to kind of 'seal' it... turned out not too bad for a totally free project, made quickly and completely out of a whim....
